An Exploration of Self and Form

Project type

Handmade Ceramics

Date

2023-4

In our digital age my access to inspiration is endless. In the pursuit of my own voice and style both imitation and trial and error have been crucial. My toolbox of techniques is an amalgamation of those that I have seen from others mixed with my own subtleties. What I seek to gain from imitation is not an identical finished piece, but rather a new set of skills and exploration of technique.

My work has lately been inspired by the yunomi; a traditional Eastern Asian teacup designed for everyday use and drinking. Taking great interest in brewing specialty coffee, espresso and tea, my newest pots have aimed to amplify these daily rituals.
My interests in computers, technology and product design influence the pots I make too. I am inspired by analog, tactile and refined products which engage the user and enhance productivity and play.

The potters who inspire me the most are Florian Gadsby, Andres Montenegro, Mike Jabbur, Stephen Hill and Dwayne Sackey. Their educational content across several platforms has significantly aided in my development as a young ceramic artist.
